GUINESSS AMENDMENTS.

Mr Guinness haS'proposed the' following amendments, to Sir R>- Stout's Native Reserves Bill : — . Clauses 1 and 2to stand as presented. Strike out clauses 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and substitute the following clauses : — 3. Subject to the provisions of the said Act, and as soon as conveniently may; be after the passing of this Act the Public Trustee shall cause the value of all -improvements, stating whether made by the original lessee or any sub-lessee on the lands, to be ascertained as provided by this Act; and also shall cause to be separately, ascertained in like manner the annual .rent such lands would bring witM out any* such improvements ; and for the purpose of ascertaining Buch value and annual rent, the Public Trustee shall subdivide the . lands into as many lots as there are holdings. v "■ 4. In every case where a lease shall be accepted the Public Trustee shall grant a fresh lease to such lessee or under-lessee ; but in the case of a sub-lessee such new^ lease shall take effect only on the expiration of the term for wnich such original lessee shall hold such land. 7. In giving effect to the provisions; " "hereinbefore set under, the term " lessee " shall mean original lessee, and the assignee of the original term held by him, whether by deed or by operation o£Jaw. 8. Every lease granted by the Public Trustee under this A#t shall be made subject to, and shall contain proxisions for valuation for improvements, also, for ascertaining the annual rent, and also for a renewal similar to those set out in this schedule hereto, and all leases hereafter made by the Public Trustee of lands subject to the said Act ; and this Act shall be so disposed of and dealt with in the manner provided by the Native Reserves Act, 1882 ; save and except that every lease shall be sold or disposed of by public auction, and- not by public tender. Strike out clause 10, but substitute no clause in lieu thereof. Retain the schedule as printed.
