THE SECOND TRIAL OF PEARCE.
The second trial of William Pearce for murder commenced to-day. The Crown Prosecutor ordered two jurymen to stand aside, and the prisoner's counsel challenged twelve jurymen. The defence to-day will be an entirely new one— that deceased accidentally inflicted the wound on herself, an open knife being carried by Pearce.
