THE COMET.

Dunedin, January 11

Mr Beverley writes to the Dunedin Star as follows: — "The comet was distinctly visible from last night from 9:30 till 10.15 ; at 9.50 it was due west near the horison, but will continue ascending about two degrees each succeeding night at the same hour. It is as bright as a third

magnitude star, with a faint tail about two degrees long, as seen with an opera glass. To the naked eye it is barely visible owing to the unusually protracted twilight. It will be in perihelion on the 26th, and brightest at the end of Februaiy."
