LOCAL BODIES’ SUGGESTIONS MINISTER* REPLIES ' following a confcreuci; of local, rating authorities hold in Gisborne on April IS to' discuss' various; -matters, copies; of the resolutions; passed were forwarded to the Prime Minister ■and. •the Ministers of the departments concerned. Amongst other matters tome oil the resolutions related to valuations, and a reply was received by the Cook County Clerk (Mr. F. T. IRobinson) who them to the Borough Council last niglit for conski era tiion. The Hon. F. Langston®-, Minister sin Charge of the Valuation Department, replied las under to several of the requests made. In regard to soldier settlers’ valuations, the work of revising the valuations inedistrict rolls is- proceeding, with the object of bringing the valuations into line with present-day con'ditions of the- market. The suggestion to confine the g-ouiUl, of objection to new individual valuations to the uniiairijes.s or incorrectness of the valuation in regard to other valuations made during the general revision had a good deal ■ to commend it and would, be brought, forward when amended legislation is considered. Tiio valuation of all lands in hospital, harbour and electric power districts in the same year by the same valuer was not considered practicable, but would receive further consideration. It was not considered advisable to lay down a hard and fast rule for revaluing districts in rotation, As far as possible an' interval of'five to seven years is observed, but there are often special circumstanpas which make departure from a strict rotation desirable; The letter was received.
