MISSING RACEHORSE
PRINCE COLOSSUS RECOVERED UNFIT FOR EARLY RACING SENSATION AT AUCKLAND (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, April 21. After being missing for three days, the racehorse, Prince Colossus, was rbcovferfed to-ddy iri tlifc fodthills of the Waitakere Ranges, near Coates-; ville, where the gelding had been left iri-an area of oeruH. Prince Colossus was removed from his stable in Campbell road. One Tree Hill, on Thursday night or .early on Good Friday morning. When an attendant went,to get the Ellerslie candidate on Friday morning to give him track, work' on the course, he’ found that the padlock on the stable door had been forced and that thfe horse was missing. Other horses iri the stable had not been interferfe'd with.
On Friday and yesterday, police and detectives, besides tlie horse’s connections, madfe ait exhaustive search, hut this was fruitless an« Prince Colossus was not on hand for the. President’ll Handicap, decided at Ellerslie On Sntiirdity, a race in which his prospects were considered gOod. Concern lit. the trpatrhent to which Prince Colossus had been exposed was expressed tliin evening by Mr A. Calderon, of Hamilton, who has a five-year lease of tlio gelding from Mrs Al. C. Kenney, and by Air T, M. Morris, of Cambridge, who hits been training him isince the spring. They said that the condition of the horse was such as to preclude it 'from early racing, including the Avondale fixture for which it was entered,. At least three weeks’ careful treatment they isaid, would he required to restore Prince Cclossun to liis normal condition.
