NAZI BROADCASTS
GERMANY’S REMARKABLE MOVE. WAVE-LENGTHS FOR FIVE WORLD ZONES. ENGLISH LANGUAGE USED FOR THREE ZONES. HITLERITE PROPAGANDA OVER THE .YIR. (U P.A. bv Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received April 9, 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, April 8. The Daily Telegraph says that Germany made a remarkable move relating to her short-wave “Empire” broadcasts from Berlin. She sent the advance programmes and a questionnaire, concerning reception and comments on the items, to the British Dominions. The German service in many respects resembles the British Broadcasting Corporation programmes from Daventry. Separate headquarters in Berlin send out shortwave broadcasts from fifteen to sixteen hours daily on various wave lengths. For the first zone, embracing Bombay, Batavia, Sydney and Auckland, the English language is used; for the second zone, the Far East, the Dutch language is used; for the third zone. Africa, English is usc-d ; for the fourth zone, South America, Spanish and Portuguese are used, and for the fifth zone, North America, English is used. Officially the programmes are intended for “thirty million Germans living abroad.” Semi-official documents admit that the service is intended as propaganda for the homeland.
