A BITTER BLOW

NAZIS’ DEFICIT AT DANZIG. EVEN GIVEN UNFAIR ADVANTAGES. FLIGHT OF FORTIER HITLERITE PRESIDENT. SUPPOSED TREACHERY TO PARTY. (CJ.P.A. by Elec. Tel, Copyright.) LONDON, April 8. The Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent says that the Danzig election was a bitter disillusionment to Hie Nazi organisers who stage-manag-ed the election campaign. Short of a complete suppression of the opposition parties they had every advantage. The Danzig Government played , into their hands and established a Nazi inonoploy of electioneering propaganda. No other party except the Polos was allowed even to display banners or exhibit posters. The Nazis are greatly concerned that, without outside aid, the Socialists and Centre Party maintained their representation. No German news paper is allowed to refer to the Nazi excesses which led to the Polish diplomatic representations. A Danzig message states that Dr. Rauchning, the Nazi President of Danzig for 17 months until he resigned in November, 1934, has fled, presumably to Poland. It is understood that the Nazis accused him of treachery. His disappearance followed Dr. Goebbels’ speech on Saturday, when he declared that the Nazis should ignore Dr. Rauschning, who had committed moral suicide. Herr Joel Gang, a Polish journalist and correspondent of the Manchester Guardian and the News-Chronicle, has been arrested. FALSE- NEWS OF NAZI TERRORISM. GANG ARRESTED. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright.) (Received April 9, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 9. The Daily Chronicle’s Danzig correspondent says that a gang charged with criminally disseminating false information was arrested while telephoning news to London referring to Nazi terrorism.
