The resignation of Mr J. Callahan from the waterworks eiaff was accepted with regret by the Borough Council last evening and it was d's*. cided, in recognition of his long faithful service, to grant him a month’s leave of absence on full pay, also to forward him a letter of - ap-* preciation of his excellent services. $ Mr Coates will leave Wellington by the Limited express on Friday night for Auckland, where he will immediately board the Rnngiiane for London. He will be accompanied by Mrs Coated. During his absence his portfolios will be distributed as “follows : Finance and Customs, to the Hon. A. Hamilton ; and Transport to the Hon. J. Bitehener. The Hon. E. A. Ransom will be Acting Prime Minister. —P.A.
