A young New Zealander, Joseph Vivian McGrath, who escaped from the Fanny Bay gaol on October 1, continued to • elude the police in a mangrove swamp three miles away from Darwin. Over fifty black traclc’Sjfc’ a nd other natives were employed for him, but the unemployed and sympathisers of McGrath we r e believed to be helping him with surreptitious food supplies.
