PLANE FATALITY
CRASH iN RABAUL.
OF MRS. GRAHAM MIRFIELD.
HUSBAND INJURED. (U.P.A. by Eleo.'Tet. Copyright) (Rec Oct. 16, 10.20 p.m.) RABAUL, Oct. 15. An aeroplane owned by the Rabaul Airways syndicate, crashed at Kokopo. Mrs. Graham Mirfield, a popular member of Rabaul society, was killed Her husband was seriously injured. The pilot, Captain W. Duncan, formerly of the Royal Air Force, was slightly injured-' A cablegram stating the sad news Mirfield’s death was received in Gisborne yesterday by Mr. I. Mirfiold. Tho message also stated that Mr Graham Mirfield was in hospital but his injuries were not serioiis. Sincere regret will be felt by a very large’ circle of friends in . Gisborne at the distressing news. Mr. Graham Mirfield, who is the only son of Mr. I. Mirfieid and the stepbrother to Mr. Wilfred ICohn, was formerly in the engineer’s office of the Gisborne Harbor Board- He left here to accept an appointment in Xow Guinea, and made ■rapid progress in his profession. Less than a year ago, bo married Miss Grigette Schmidt, a member of. a highly-es-teemed family in Rabaul. The young couple spent the greater part of their honeymoon in Gisborne, arriving here early in January, and remaining here for some five weeks. In the course of that time, Mrs Mirfield, junr., made many friends and was highly popular with all with whom she came in contact. Her charming personality made her a universal favorite, and she was the guest at many farewell parties. Heartfelt sympathy will be folfcjat the terrible blow sustained by ML Mirfield in the loss of bis young wife, and this sympathy will be coupled with the hope that be may soon recover from his injuries. .
