FACIAL ECZEMA IN SHEEP
SOME CASES IN HAWKE’S BAY
A few cases of facial eczema h* .sheep have occurred in Hawke’s Bay during th 0 past few weeks. Not, only does this disease cause considerable pain to the affected sheep, but it may ulso lead to the death el the animals, unless proper treatment i s adopted at an early stage. The cause is both dietetic and bacterial, .the bacteria being a contributory factor. Where cases have occurred, or are occurring, it is advisable to change the sheep on to a- new pasture of short sweet grass if possible. Segregation of the affected sheep is also recommended. Mr. E. E. Elphick Government Veterinarian, reeommonds tho washing of the affected parts with a 5 per cent, solution °f lysol, followed by a local application of some, mild ointment, such as sulpliuror zinc ointment. Each animal sh-oudl be given a 4oz dose, of Ep som Salts, in conjunction with treacle and water. - • -----
