WOMAN CATCHES GLIMPSE OF MAN

Considerable uneasiness is being experienced. in the town and suburbs in connection with the recent (wave of robberies and burglaries. Many persons, especially .in the Kaiti district. are particularly nervous, and even the visit of a frieudl after dark has caused alarm on more than one occasion. One well-known resident lias adopted the sensible course of allowing his dbg off the chain at .nighttime . In the Times yesterday four cases (of homes being entered in Kaiti were detailed, and also on© home in AVhataupoko.. All these have occurred within the past ten days or so. It was also stated) yesterday that on two occasions tho intruder [was surprisel by the occupants of the house, hut oil each occasion managed to get away.

. It is now learned that still another case is to he added to the list, and this also occurred! in home of a relief, worker being entered. The wiife was resting at the time and heard someone moving in the house. She called out and the man made his departure, hut the woman caught a brief glimpse of him. A search of the place revealed the fact (that 6s had been stolen, hut this sum was subsequently returned in an envelope left in the letter box of the residence. / This makes the fifth visitation of the bind in Kaiti so far as i.s known and there may he more, and on three occasions the man has been seen. It is small iwond'er, therefore, that the residents of that suburb are nervous, and is is hoped' that the activities of the burglar will soon be checked. Residents are advised in their own interests to see that all doors and 1 windows, particularly those in the back portion of the. premises, arc locked before they absent themselves temporarily.
