OUTBREAKS ON SHIPS

INVESTIGATION IN BRITAIN

REPORTS ON DESIGNS OF DINERS

(British Official Wirfem^.i RUGBY. Jan. 11

The question of safety from fire of ships at sea- is undergoing a thorough, investigation at the hands of the Ship-building Employers’ Federation and the Chamber of Shipping. . Ail inquiry on this subject was suggested for June hy the Board of Trade, but at the time the matter already had, been raised. ~

Although the record of British ships shows remarkable freedom from serious fires,, it is recognised that disasters which have overtaken other vessels built to high standard specifications made reconsideration of the prevention of fires a desirable and prudent step. .. . The recent occurrences have infer'eas ed the public interest in the subject, and it is anticipated that reports under compiliation will deal specially with the relation between the outbreaks of fire and ,the design of liners ip ; which the higher decks, are without bbstructing bulkheads,, and with the material used for internal construction' and decoration. , !
