OBITUARY

AIR. JOHN WILSON. The death occurred at Cook Hospital yesterday of Air- John Wilson, a highly-esteemed resident of the district for the past 40 years. The late Air. Wilson xx-as born m County Donegal, Ireland, 71 years ago and bo arrived in Ncxv Zealand at .the age of 21, by the steamer British King. Landing at Napier xvith other members of the family, he spent the first ten years in liawke’s Bay, being employed, together with his brothers, by the Williams family in draining To Auie swamp, and othe. pioneering works.' Subsequently moving to Gisborne, the brothers engaged in hush-felling operations as large areas of hush country were then being brought into occupation. Air Vi ilson took up dairyfarming at MaUraka and afterwards at Ormond. He retired from farming about lo years ago, and with Airs Wilson settled in Gisborne, xvhere be xvas known, to a wide circle of friends for his ho n est. sterling character.
