WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. The high north-west wind, m the Wellington district yesterday afternoon end evening caused some damage. Rain accompanied the wind 1 1 night. Windows and hoardings suffered, and the hood of a car in an exposed place was ripped off. The instruments at Kelburn Observatory registered a gust of Go miles an hour at 7.240 p.m., which is the force of the whole gale. This afternoon, the Meteorological Office said the wind was due;to n very intense low pressure area, which crossed the Dominion last night, Rome very low barometer, pressures had been registered, 28.99 inches at the Bluff, and 28.95 at Cape Pnyscgur. Further strong winds; could bo expected. The wind is. still high. ,
