FELL INTO TRAPS.

INTERJECTOPS SILENCED BY PREMIER. MORTGAGES AND BANKRUPTCIES. (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 13. “All that the farmers have got are mortgages,” called an interjector at the Prime Minister’s meeting at Newmarket. “Quito sure?” asked the Prime Minister. “Yes,” the mterjector answered, “thev have got hundred per cent, of mortgages, “ \ v hat party do you support ?” Mr Coates askeu. “The United Party.” “And you believe in their borrowing policy?” “Too right, I do.” “Well, then, why on earth do* you complaUi about farmers’ mortgages when you propose to add another £60,000,000 worth on the top of them?” The audience saw the point and laughed down the interjectcr. A little while later, however, lie came again and fell into' a trap, which silenced him for the remainder of the meeting. “The bankruptcies are the test,” ho said. “Look at the great number you had last year.” “We did not have them,” Mr. Coates replied, “but it is just as well to reflect on the fact that the record number of bankruptcies during the Reform administration is well below that of 1910, when the Liberals were in power." (Applause.)
