P.W.D. CONSENTS TO REVOCATION. ON TERMS STIPULATED BY COUNCIL. ’BUS' servictTto be substi- : TUTED. The discontinuance of the Gisborne' tramway system has been consented to by the Public Works Department, practically on the conditions stipulated' by the Borough Council. This advice was communicated to the Council last night by the Borough solicitors, who enclosed the following letter covering the application by the Council for orders of revocation from Mr. E. W. Furkort, Engmeer-in-Ohief of the Public Works Department!:— “Full inquiries have then made and it now appears that the revoking Or-der-in-C'ouneil may now be proceeded with as • requested. The draft order submitted has been revised by both the Council and the Crown Solicitor, a copy of the order in the form of proposed issue being forwarded for the Council’s consideration.” As soon as the Council notified its approval of the terms of the order it would he placed before the Governor-General and the Executive Council for signature. The order is cited, as the" “Gisborne Tramways Order No. 3,’’"and states that the Gis tome Borough tramways are revoked and that the Council is empowered and authorised at all times on and after a date to be fixed by the Minister of Public Works to discontinue wholly and to abandon the maintenance and use of the tramway. The date the order shall come into force is to be published in the gazette, and shall be the date on which, in the opinion of the Minister, an efficient and comprehensive motor omnibus service will bo available substantially to take the pace of the tramway service. The order further .states that no consent given to the local authority pursuant to sub-clause 2 of clause 15 of the second schedule of the Tramways Act, 1908, shall (except _ with the written consent of the Minister) operate to extend for a period more than six months from the date the order shall come into force-, or from the date of discontinuance of the tramway system, whichever date ,bo the later.
