Reports from Catania state that a new crater is opening at Montenaci, whence a big stream of lava destroyed the forest of Cerrita, and ia now threatening Annuziata and Mascali. The latter town has 10,000 inhabitant. Many houses and villages have been evacuated and the whole countryside is alarmed. Processions carrying images of saints are assembling in various parts of Sicily praying for a cessation of the disaster.
