POLICY OF FIRMNESS. HOME COMMENT ON ITS ’ SUCCESS. Lfnltod Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright (Australian Press Association.) (Received Oct. 6, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 5. The Morning Post says: “The news from Australia shows Mi*. Bruce’s policy of firmness is having success. If the Federal Government had been in the control of the Socialists, it is probable that no such firm stand would have been made. The Australian people would have been left to fight the anarchy themselves • There is an abundance of stout stuff in Australia, as we saw in war-time, and the people would doubtless have won through In the end, but the situation would have been incomparably more dangerous.” The editorial emphasises -the fact that the arbitration award actually precipitated the struggle, and continues : ‘ ‘Machinery as between master and man, as between nation and national, can never take the place of knowledge, sympathy and courage, which remain in all the relations of the human kind the best, if not- the only, pacifiers.”
