PILES OF CENTRE SPAN. CALLANCE STREET STRUCTURE "The condition of the piles of the centre span' of Ballance Street footbridge is not satisfactory','’ stated the Borough Engineer (Mr A. Young) m a report to the Borough Council last cvenmg. dt is noticed that youths indulge in listing and swimming under the span, thereby attracting people, causing considerable crowding on the centre span. I consider it advisable that the Council should prohibit such displays as dangerous conditions are present when the bridge is crowded.” The engineer was instructed to furnish a report on the condition of the bridge ancl to erect a notice indicating that the structure was unsafe for people to congregate upon it.
