MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING

The montlilv meeting of the Wnilcohu County ‘Council was held at Te Karalca yesterday when there Were -present: Cts. T. B. Spence (chairman), AG. Doyle, A. hVaser, AV. R. Harding. G, H. Aforioe, and H. F. Tomhleson. Owing to a complaint by the Look Countv Council the question of fancelling a motor driver’s license was considered. —it was decided to explain the circumstances, to the t ook Count\ r Council and to take no further notion at present. . South British Insurance Company wrote offering a fire policy to cover the council’s lorries whilst not in use. —It was agreed to accept the offer. ■ A request was received from the Waiapu County Council that A\aijvotiu s representative on the Alain Highways Board he authorised to confer with the "Waiapu - County cuairman on the question of the uniformity of dog registration foes. Agreed to. . An : application by Air .I'. Lantcl* to gather grass-seed on the county roads in the Atainwai district was granted. . . Authorities wore received from the Alain Highways Board for highway maintenance and from the Public" Works Department for £550, £1 for £l, and £247, £1 for £l. for metalling and forming the NgatapnWharekppae road. —Received. Tho health inspector’s report showed that no infectious diseases had been notified during the.month. It was decided to call applications for the collection of the dog-tax during the coming year. > Jt was resolved to grant two days holiday at Christmas and two days at New Year for the permanent loading staff. The engineer was instructed to report to the next meeting as to what buildings belonging to the council required painting, including roadmen’s cottages.. Cr. Alorice reported that when in Wellington recently ho waited on the Minister for Public Works, the lion. K. S. Williams, and had received a sympathetic hearing in regard to requests for increased subsidies on the road works in the Ngatapa area and nlso for improved access to the Ngatapa station. Plans were considered for further improvements on .the Council’s portion of the G<ishorno-Opotiki highway and the engineer was instructed to "call for tenders for this work as soon as the plans are finally approved.

With regard to the proposed alteration in the boundaries of the Cook and AVaikohu counties, the engineer reported that, in company with the Cook County engineer, lie had inspected the Taumata road and it was suggested that the maintenance of tlie two portions should he arranged between the two councils on the basis of £lO per week.
