MERGER SOUGHT
BY EKATAHUXA RATEPAYERS
PAHIATUA, April 1. The commission, including Mr Mclntosh. the Commissioner of Crown Lands, as the chairman, sat in Pahiatua a]l day yesterday and until the evening, hearing the petition of 30 ratepayers of Eketahuna county requesting a change o-f boundaries so that they can lie included in Pahiatua county. The evidence taken showed that the petitioners’ community interests, hanking, stock and commercial transactions were mostly in Pahiatua. On behalf of the objectors it was contended that the most valuable portion of one riding would be taken from them if the request was granted. As that particular riding was now overloaded, an increased burden would fall on the remaining settlers. The commissioner’s decision will be announced later.—P.A.
