A burglary took place yesterday morning, as a result of which the police arrested two men after an exciting chase, and in the presence of hundreds of people. It is alleged that the men entered the workroom and offices of Schneideman and Sons, in Cable Street, the premises of Hatrick and Co., merchants and shipowners, and of the Fletcher Construction Co., where they secured a considerable sum of money tied up in small bags. Schneideman’s and Hatrick’s premises were thoroughly ransacked. The suspicions of one of Hatrick and Co.’s employees were first aroused by his hearing someone -walking about on the floor above, but he took little notice until he saw two men drop through a hole which they had <i idently cut near the stairway. Questioning them, he was not satisfied l with the explanation, but he allowed them to depart. Immediately, however, he ruslied.round to the police station and gave the alarm. A constable pimped into a car, which sped after iae men, wb|* were going in -the direction of Tory Street. Hhere they were stopped but they put up a game fight, and were only secured after strenuous resistance/ They are supposed to he recent arrivals 'from Home. The men will appeal- at the Court - to-day.— P.A. .
