OTAGO v. AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, Jan. 3

The Plunket Shield match between Auckland and Otago was continued in fine weather, and on an easy wicket. Auckland carried tlieir overnight score to 333 by slow and unenterprising hatting, the morning’s play realising only 81 runs. The outstanding feature was the fine howling of Torrance, who sent down 42 overs, of which 11 were maidens and took seven wickets loi 90 runs. His bowling hardly ever varied and he swerved dangerously at times. Otago’s second innings was a great improvement on the first venture. McMullen went cheaply. Good batting by Cherry and Alloo improved matters, and then Blamires and Zimmerman bv fine hatting took the scoie past Auckland’s total. The score stood at 209 for three wickets when stumps- were drawn for tho day. Following are the scores: —

SOUTH AUSTRALIA v. AHCTORIA.

(Received Jan. 3, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 3

South Australia, against Victoria, have lost six for 321 (A. Richardson 41, Rvmill, not out, 104, V. Richardson 56, Alexander, not out, 74). Play recommenced in intense heat and on a good wicket. It was the day of the colts Rymill and Alexander thoroughly trouncing the howling, er.ch batting a fine free style, and scoring all round the wicket, but on the whole, the day’s play was uninteresting.— U.P.A.
