FATAL FALL FROM HORSE
MAN FRACTURES BASE OF SKULL.
CARTERTON, July 30. The inquest concerning tlie death of Frank H. Rushton was resumed at Grey town yesterday. The evidence showed that a party of ton men took 10 gallons of beer and a bottle of whisky, besides bottled beer to a place outside Grey town. They returned at 3.30 on Sunday morning. The deceased mounted a horse and left. His companions surmised that he became sick or fell asleep on the horse, and fell on the road, striking his head and fracturing the base of his skull. Medical evidence was to the effect that there was no hope for the man wliatevet had been done. Considering that deceased was drunk at first, his employer, Mr J. Meikle, with assistance, put him to bed and loft him for some hours. He could not rouse him for bieakfast,. and sent for a doctor, who pi-onounced the man unconscious and ordered his removal to hospital, where he died a few hours later.
A. verdict was returned that death was caused by Rushton accidentally falling from his lforse and fracturing the base of his skull.—<P.A.
