MOTOR DRIVERS’ LICENSES.
CHALLENGE BY COOK COUNTY,
BOROUGH DEFERS BRINGING AN
ACTION
At the meeting of the. Borough Council on Tuesday evening a letter was received from the Cook County Council with reference to the new traffic bylaws requiring motor-drivers to obtain a license from the Borough Council. It was asked that the- Council bring an action against one of the many country residents who had failed to take out a license, in order that the validity of the by-law be tested. The Mayor moved that the letter be received.
Cr. Coleman said lie thought that action could he taken. The by-law had been made and it was either right or wrong. He considered that action should be taken right away, and he would like to see it taken against a member of the City Council —preferably the chairman. He moved to this effect.
Cr. Todd,’ in .seconding the motion, said that lie thought that the Council hud ail obligation in the matter. They had been asked to take action, and should not hesitate to do so in order to test the by-law. Cr. DeCosta asked if they were ready to proceed with an action. The Mayor said that lie would like to see, the matter held over until the Borough was ‘'cleaned up.” Cr. Ball said he did not see why the Council was called upon to* oblige the Cook County Council. There was no reason why they should do more than receive the letter.
The Mayer gave an assurance that the matter would lie attended to before next meeting, and the motion was withdrawn.
