SPORTS GROUNDS.
HAS COUNCIL DONE' ENOUGH 'IN
THE PAST
For Tuesday night’s meeting of the Borough Council, Cr. Ball gave notice of his intention to bring forward the following motion:
.. That all moneys received from' sports bodies for the use of the Childer’s Hoad grounds be ear marked and set apart for permanent improvements to the
grounds.” Cr. Ball stated that he had since looked into the matter and found that the Council was not empowered to take the fiction suggested. Although Gisborne had a number of reserves, there was not one decent playing ground for sports bodies. The Kaiti residents had now taken a step in the right direction, and he hoped that their action would be an incentive to the public to take an interest in the matter. The motion was accordingly withdrawn;. The Mayor stated that although it had to be admitted that the Council had not spent much money on improving the reserves, they had, within the past few years, spent a considerable sum in acquiring further property.
