MANGAPAPA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MEETING LAST EVENING
The Gisborne North -(Mangnpapn.) School committee meeting met last evening. Present: Messrs W. J. McClislde (chairman). H. J Clayton, Marshall. W. J. Sinclair, Bruce. W. Duncan and H. Holmes. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Goldsmith and Glanville. The headmaster’s report showed a total roll number of 465 and an average attendance -of 423, or 91.5, which is very satisfactory. There had been 158 new rmhils enrolled since the opening of the school in February and still more were.coming in. The infant room had a roll number of 100 an-i the attendance yesterday was 90, while the room is only big enough to provide comfortably for 45. During the month Miss, Carlin, of the Young Helpers’ League, on behalf of Dr Barnado’s Homes visited the school, and as a result 46 of the children became members of the League. The King’s Birthday was observed as a general holiday. The term examinations were being, held during tbe week. He asked for gravel for repairs. He forwarded £2 6s 6d, sationery money. —The report was received. It was decided in view of the crowded state of tbe infant room to jvrite to the Board asking it to hurry up the Department, to grant extensions.— The chairman was, deputed to attend to the request for gravel. The Education Board wrote turning down the committee’s application for a subsidy on stationery money.— It was decided to make a very strong protest. The Board wrote stating that, it: was prepared to give subsidies .for the establishment or extension of school, libraries.—lt was decided to reply that in the committee’s opinion subsidies on stationery . would be much more desirable. Tlie headmaster forwarded the Inspector’s report, ' which was very, satisfactory. . , • The Borough Cou'ncil wrote stating that it was prepared to instal water at the school at cost pivee.—To> be thanked; work authorised to be carried out without delay. . Mr G. C. Munns wrote announcing bis candidature for the Education Board. —Received. Messrs Holmes and Bruce were, appointed a visiting committee for the. month. ♦
