MILK VENDORS’ LICENSES

AN INTERESTING POINT. The Hospital Board wrote to the Borough Council last evening stating that they were in receipt of a report from the Health Inspector concerning certain conditions obtaining amongst milk vendors in this district. It was shown that some per-, sons received milk vendors’ licenses by virtue of their holding a paddock license from the Department of Agriculture. It was considered that the issuing of these licenses to persons who milked one _or two cows with tho intention of selling the milk was undesirable in the interests of public health, and there were cases known in which the milk has first been taken into the homes for distribution and the conditions wero most unsatisfactory. The Board would therefore be glad if the Council would discontinue the practice to which attention had been drawn, and further it was recommended that up license be issued until the premises of applicants had been favorably reported on by the inspector. The Mayor said the matter came before the Hospital Board and' had' been passed on to the Council. They used to inspect these daliriefe, but the Government had removed their man and since then nobody had been doing it. He had spoken to Mr MacDonald on the matter, and if they did not receive information to the effect that the Government was making the inspections he would suggest that they undertake the work again themselves. * This was agreed to.
