HOCKEY.

MIRA (10) v. TUKAPA (3)

This game was played on the Reserve yesterday afternoon, and as the scores show was a walk-over for the first-mentioned team. The goals for the winners were scored by Casein (4), Roderick (2), Pollock (2), and Huston (2), while for Tukapa Shearer scored twice and Milno once. From the start the Mira forwards showed great combination, and simply ran through their opponents, who, although not weak, were outclassed. The players who shone out from their fellows were Huston, Hawkins, Redgrave, Milne, Oman and Farquhar. The game was altogether a fast one, and both sides to be congratulated on their form.

KIA ORA V. TE RAU

Tliis game proved a most interesting one. To Rau had the best team they have put forward this season, and if they can manage to place the same team each week will bo hard to beat. Kia Ora had the most attacking on the day, and several good chances were missed through faulty shooting. Rice was the first to draw blood, shooting a nice goal for Te Rau after a very pretty run- from more than half-way. Play then livened, and Morse scored for Kia Ora, placing tho teams even, 1 all. Borne real first-class play between the backs of each team kept things moving, and Kia Ora had hard luck in not scoring several times. Too much talking caused the Te Rau men to give Kia Ora a chance, and after some pretty passing between Morse, McLaughlan, McLeod scored, putting Kia Ora in the lead: Te Rau then livened up, and had Kia Ora working very hard to keep them out, and from a penalty corner Rico managed to shoot another goal, bringing the scores even. From this out the play went wall no and down the field, and at the call of time the scores were unchanged. Messrs McLean and Lewis controlled the game.

LADIES’ MATCH.

OLD GIRLS (3) V. GISBORNE (0.)

By far the most interesting event on the Reserve yesterday was the ladies* hockey match, Old' Girls v. Gisbfohe Ladies., Such a good exposition of hockey is rarely seen here, especially at the beginning of the season, and both teams are to be heartily congratulated on tho display given. Old Girk left the hold victorious by

3 to nil, but the scores are no criterion of the game. The extra little bit of combination shown by the Old Girls, together with their making the most of their onportunities, gave them the victory. It wouM be unfair to single out any player for special mention, because all did their best, and did it willingly. "What a differ once there is between. the ladies’ matches and the men’s. With the ladies there is hardly a. sound (except perhaps an occasional “Oh, oh!” or a screech; certainly no appealing) but with- the men every player thinks he can see more than the referee, and does not foremt to proclaim it with a loud voice. The ser»- t.bo men- follow the example set hv the ladies the bettor for all concerned.
