TURANGANUI CLUB

Several enjoyable games were played on the Turanganui’« Club’s green yesterday afternoon. Two games in the Friar and William’s gold medal’s pairs were got through between J. J. Martin and P. Howard, and Neill and Matthewson respectively. The most interesting game in the pairs was that played between Messrs Neill and Matthewson. Each head was keenly contested, and great praise is due to ilr. Geo. Matthewson (one of Turanganui’s most esteemed bowlers) on the magnificent display of old-time bowling exhibited by him. On the 20th head) both .sides stood 17 all. The night shades had fallen upon the green and-it was difficult for the onlookers to see the kitty within a few yards, and therefore much more difficult f?r the bowlers, who could see nothing from the other end of the green. When the last bowl had been played Mr. Neill stood one to .the good, not reckoning on his 3 points of a handicap. The following are the results of the play: Friar and Williams’ gold medals.— Law, NeiLl (skip) IS, beat Hird (sub.) Leydon, Matthewson (skipl7; Flavill, J.j. Martin (skip), 22-, beat Robertson. P. Howard (skip) 20. Other Games.—Thacker, Ratcliffe, Spiers (skip) 22, beat Hepburn, H. Martin, Sawyer (skip) 18. On Tuesday afternoon an interesting game was prayed in the D. J. Barry fours, between J. J. Martin and Gray’s rinks, which resulted in a. substantial win for the former. The scores were as follows: Flavill, Dooley, Bruce, J. J. Martin (skip) 20, heat Law, McSkintming, McConnell, Gray (skin) 15. The'final of tho D. J. Barry’q Fours will be played on the 3rd of June, between Simson’s and J. J. Martin’s rinks.

GISBORNE CLUB

Yesterday being favored with fine weather, a good number cf _ bowlers mustered for a game. The following practice gaitics were played: — Oxenham, H. Miller, Ponsford,- and Kvmo 20 beat Elliott. Witty, T. A. Crawford, and Woottcn 19; Chas. Parker, Harris, Bullock, and Ambridge 22 beat O’Meara, Colebrook, Wm. Pettie, and R. Robertson 15. Handicap Pairs.—The section winners of the above being now found, the play-off will result in each pair playing the other. A game was played yesterday, and was as follows: Atkins and Thelvall (6 points) beat Leslie and Craig (scratch) by 26 to 19. - Thehvall got a five on the first head and kept his distance all the wav.
