DESPERATE BURGLAR TACKLED.
COURAGEOUS POLICE OFFICERS. EXCITING SCENE IN POLICE STATION. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] BRISBANE. May 27. The proprietor of a hotel reported that his wife had been burglarised of £6O, Detectives and Head Constable Scanlon met the Brisbane train at Toowoomba. They tackled a suspect, who fled from the platform, keeping the officers covered with a revolver. Scanlon dashed in and struck him with an umbrella, but was struck on the head. However, he continued the pursuit, and after a desperate struggle secured the man. Tho latter had a fullyloaded revolver. Lieut.-Governor Morgan and hundreds of passengers watched the chase, and cheered the officers, Lieut.-Gov-ornor Morgan lifting his hat and adding “Good men.” The man arrested also congratulated them on their bravery, saying that they had faced what he would not. The missing money was found in his possession.
