MOTU. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.. MOTU, May 2(3A well-attended dance, considering the boisterous weather, was held in the public hall last Monday evening, the occasion being to bid farewell to our late postmaster, Mr. Gordon, and Mrs Gordon, prior to their departure for Australia. During the evening Mr. Ruby, on behalf of-the residents of! Motu and district, presented Mr v Gordon with a beautiful travelling rug and a purse of severalgns, as a small token of esteem by which he was held, and in a few well-chosen words culogcd the many good works accomplished by Mr. Gordon in his capacity -as postmaster. Mr. Gordon, upon rising to respond, was greeted with applause, which having subsided, lit' thanked all present in liis usual able manner for the presents and the good words conferred upon him. The singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows," terminated -a very enjoyable evening. The several requests by the Settlers’ Association to the Minister for Justice, and the numerous deputations to different Ministers when visiting this district, to station .a police constable here, has had the desired effect, Constable. Williamson- late of Waihi, having arrived during the week to take charge of this district.
