WRECKAGE SIGHTED

WELLINGTON, May 12. Captain Scott, of the steamer Kairaka, reported to the Marine Department on Sunday afternoon, when five miles off Capo Campbell, ho sighted about 100 pieces of timber from 10 feet to 14 feet long, and also what appeared to bo portion of a bulkhead about 14 feet square and several grating all painted white. From the description given it is assumed that the debris is’part of temporary third-class accommodation that was being carried on the deck of some vessel and was washed overboard. FIRE AT INVERCARGILL. INVERCARGILL. May 12. A fire at Gladstone destroyed a 10rooined house, owned and occupied by Mr W. Aldred. Nothing was saved.
