MARKET STEADY AND CONFIDENT. CLOSE OF THE SERIES. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT.] (Received Alay 8, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, Alay 8. The wool sales have closed. One hundred and forty-seven thousand bales were catalogued, and 93,000 were sold for the Home market; 45,000 for the Continent, and 1000 for the United States. The tone of the market was steady and confident throughout. All sections of buyers supported merinos, Yorkshire manufacturers being the principal operators in crossbreds, with Continental buyers supporting them towards the close. The prices for merinos generally closed on a par with Alareh dosing rates. Vasty parcels were somewhat slow. Best sorts occasionally showed a hardening tendency. New Zealand greasies showed a penny decline. Scoureds met with a strong market, especially pieces and locks, which advanced from 5 per cent to 7\ per cent. Fine greasy crossbreds sold generally at par to 5 per cent, decline. Coarser grades met with a strong demand and sold at par to a 5 per cent, advance. Slipes advanced Jd to Id.
