NEW ZEALAND MEAT ON HOME MARKETS.

BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR PRODUCERS. SPEECH BY HON. T. MACKENZIE. LONDON CONDITIONS CONDEMNED. [UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT] (Received Mav S. 10.45 p.m.) 'LONDON. May 8. The High Commissioner for New Zealand, Hon. T. Mackenzie, was present at the Cold Storage and Ice Association banquet. Responding to the toast of “The Dominions,” he reviewed the history of the meat trade. When the trade was founded a whok' sheep was sold in New Zealand at the price of a single pound in England. New Zealand had exported half the total mutton and lamb received in Britain. The future for producers would be good, because the increased demand would exceed the increased supply. Though Home production had increased by 250,000 tons, the workers of Europe would soon demand wholesome meat at reasonable prices. The condition of the meat arriving had improved, but the handling iu London had not. It was absolutely impossible that, the present conditions of handling at the London end should continue.
