4.7 GUNS FOR BRITISH LINERS. [INDEPENDENT PRESS CABLE] LONDON, April 30. The policy of' arming merchant steamers has been entered upon in consequence of reports that German, Austrian, and Italian liners are being supplied wit h guns. The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company’s Aragon, which sailed yesterday tor’South America, carries two 4.7 guns mounted on the poop. Other ‘British liners that traverse tho principal trade routes will be similarly equipped,'the Admiralty lending the guns, supplying the ammunition, and training portion of each ship’s company as a gun crew.
