T.B. ROWING CLUB’S TRIAL FOURS Tho second event of the present trial four contests, held by the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, eventuated last evening under favorable circumstances. Tho competing crows were R. Donkins (str), K. AlcLood (3), W. Parker (2), M. McLeod (bow) and H. Taylor (str), J. Smith (8), F. Clarko (2), S. Roderick (bow). Mr A. W. Kirk sent tho crows off to a splendid start, but Taylor’s crew quickly forged ahead. Both crews soon settled down to work, and for the first half mile tho pace was very warm. Donkins’ men, as soon as they length sned out aftor tho short sharp strokes of tho start, set determinodly to overhaul their opponents, who, in thoir turn, were pulling woll together in their endeavor to keep tho load. As the distance was traversed, Donkins’ crow crept up gradually, and by tho time tho halfmile post was reached tho boats wero on even terms. Another quarter of a mile saw Taylor’s crew a little in the roar, and a littlo fartbor on Donkins had a clear lead. The space betwoon the boots gradually increased, and on roaching tho post tho superiority of Donkins’ crew was clearly proved, thoy winning by about a length and a half. This evening the semi-final will bo decided, when Kirk's crew, who drew tho bye, will meet J. Smith’s. Tho crows are A. W. Kirk (str), L. Tato (3), J. Hay (2), J. McKinley (bow) and J. Smith (str), V. Somervell (3), J. Itodorick (2), Aroh. Pool (bow).
