HOLY YEAR PILGRIM CASUALTIES LOW

VATICAN CUT. Proudest boast of the Holy Year Central Committee, the small administrative machine set up by the Vatican to carry out the enormous task of organisation involved in the Holy Year, is that only two pilgrims have died in Rome. Three others became seriously ill during their pilgrimage, but recovered. To mark the accomplishment of half its job, the central committee has announced figures indicating the extent of •its work. It has distributed 400.000 tons of propaganda material, including 1,500,000 pilgrims’ cards, 1,500,000 prayer books, 1,500,000 guides to Romo, 1,500,000 copies of the Holy Year prayers, edited in 10 languages, including Russian, Polish and other main Slav languages, 400,000 bulletins and other announcements, 200,000 press communiques distributed to 35,000 newspapers throughout the world, and 50,000 photographs of Holy Year ceremonies.—Reuter.
