Swimming Coach's Interest

Indicative of the interest he took in Gisborne swimming during his visit this year is a letter received from Mr. Ray Austen. Australian Olympic swimming coach, by Mr. V. Dooling, Gisborne. He states: "From a distance it appears to me that Gisborne clubs could amalgamate. organise their training next season and win the Hawke’s Bav swimming premiership. With Misses N. Broom. S. Moss among the girls, and B McLean. J. Moxlcy. \V. BramweM. G Odams. E. Hogge and D. McGregor among the boys alrcadv to the fore, and some good youngster.; coming along, it onlv rcouircs strict attention to training for Gisborne to come out on top and perhaps develop

a few reallv outstanding swimmers. “Of course, as elsewhere, your clubs are seriously handicapped by the lack of an indoor pool where your members could train all the year round and compete in world class ! “I enjoyed my brief stav in Gisborne and it was pleasing to read of the good showing your members made in the Hawke’s Bay championships, but I was disappointed at not being able to visit some of the beauty spots of the district.'' Mr. Austen asks for a copy of the Gisborne Club’s annual report and concludes by wishing ‘the club every success in the coming season, but warns that this could only be achieved by training assiduously.
