BOARD’S TRIBUTE TO LATE LEADER OF NGATIPOROU
The loss suffered by the Maori people and by the Ngatiporou tribe in particular through the death of Sir Apirana Ngata was referred to with deep regret at yestreday’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board, members of which tendered their condolences to the family of the late Maori leader. Moving the vote of condolence, the chairman, Mr. J. B. Williams; commented that the work of the late Sir Apirana Naata impinged upon the field of public health and hospital administration through his concern for the welfare of his people.
The Maori race had many reasons for regarding Sir Apirana as one of their greatest men, and among these reasons was his constant endeavour to raise the standards of living in the tribes in relation to health. Much of the progress made in this field was due, undoubtedly, to the backing given by the late leader to public health and hospital officers, added Mr. Williams.
