CENTRE HARRIER CHAMPIONSHIP IS WEEK’S BIG EVENT

For Harriers of the 11.8.-P.B. centre’s district, the annual championship competitions to be held at Taradale on Saturday will represent the week’s big event.

Six seniors and five juniors will represent the Gisborne Y.M.C.A. Harriers’ Club at Taradale, the seniors comprising A. Weathcrley, D. Hughes, R. Hawkins, D. Smith, D. Flavell, and 11. A. R. Paterson; and the juniors J. McKay. G. Hawkins, M. McDonald, N. Crosby and T. Toyc. Harriers who do not travel to Hawke’s Bay for the championship fixture will be catered for by a run from the Y.M.C.A. buildings, to be controlled by the club captain, Mr. D. Miller. Last Saturday’s outing was in the nature of a tuning-up effort for those going to the championships, and was conducted over the Gisborne High School's cross-country course of approximately five miles in the Awapuni area. Some of the junior participants shortened the course and in consequence of the different homeward routes followed no organised run-in was conducted. The outing was based on the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Scandrett, where hospitality was extended to the harriers. On behalf of the participants, the president of the club, Mr. H. A. R. Patterson, expressed thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Scandrett.
