Successful Smoke Concert Held By P.B. Cricket Association

The annual smoke concert of the P.B, Cricket Association was held in the Rugby Old Boys’ clubrooms at the Gisborne Oval on Saturday night. The president of the association, Mr. J. A. Crawford-Smith, presided over a large gathering of members and supporters. A brief toast list was honoured and the toasts were interspersed with items from a number of guests artists. After the presentation of trophies for the 1949-50 season, the gathering. was entertained by the Gisborne Hill Billy Band.

Among the toasts honoured were:—* “The King”; “Rugby Old Boys' Club,” proposed by Mr. Crawford-Smith and replied to by Mr. P. Fargher; “P.B. Umpires' Association,” Mr. J. P. Blane— Mr. E. Judge; “Supporters,” Mr. R. C, Maclnncs—Mr. J. Jolly; “Sister sports,” Mr. A. McLean—Mr. J. McGregor; “The Clubs and Groundsmen,” Mr. F. R. Piercy —Mr. P. H. Dow, Mr. K. Blane.

The trophies were presented by Mr. Crawford-Smith as under;— Barry Cup, winner A Grade championship: Marist. Alhambra Shield, runner-up A Grade championship: United and R. 0.8. Hope Cup, winner B Grade championship: United. C. Adair Cup, runner-up B Grade championship: R. 0.8. Walker Shield, winner Second Grade championship: Wanderers. Miller Cup, runner-up Second Grade championship: R. 0.8. (A). Fraser Shield, highest aggregate runs in A Grade: C. Fraser. Chrisp Cup. best senior A bowling average: S. B .Martin. W. Stewart Cup, best batting, bowling and fielding: C. Fraser. S. K. White Competency Cup. team efficiency, puntuality, discinline and dress: United Senior A. Wilkie Cup. most improved player: H. E. Tapping. M. K. Boon Cup, fastest 50 runs: C. Scholium. Kirk Cup, winner annual P.B. v. H.B. representative match: P.B. Contributors of items were Messrs. ,T. Gooch, D. Tukura, F. Crosby, vocalists: Mr. W. Vcrmost. bird and animal imitator: Mr. J. Prentice, violin; Mr. R. Henderson, piano.
