U.K. NOT WORRIED BY ARGENTINA’S HURT FEELINGS
LONDON, March 30. The decision of the Argentine Government to suspend trade negotiations with Britain owing to the resentment i felt over the remarks of the Food Minister. Mr. Maurice Webb, about blackmail is not viewed with concern In official circles in London, said the political correspondent of the Financial Times Although the remark was made quite spontaneously in the heat of a controversial debate, the attitude it implies is understood to correspond with i the Government’s considered policy, which is to stand firm in the face of unreasonable Argentine demands, adds the correspondent. This attitude has become possible because of the satisfactory change in Britain’s meat position since last summer. In the meantime, supplies have increased considerably | and the Food Ministry would be in a i position to maintain meat rations for many months even in the complete absence of shipments from Argentine. “Britain can obtain what she wants from Argentina if she rectifies her attitude and plays fair.” said the semiofficial Buenos Aires newspaper La I Epoca, “but Argentina certainly will not give wav to save the loss of a few tons of meat.”
