Calcutta Violence Castigated As Work Of Lunatics

CALCUTTA, Jan. 15 Police found four big bombs near the parade ground where the Indian deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Patel, addressed 500,000 people today. Mr. Patel told the audience that if a change of Government was wanted it should be achieved “by ballot box or by revolution,” but throwing bombs at nolicemen was a "sort of madness.” Mr. Patel condemned the recent vimence in Calcutta as the work of lunatics. Mr. Patel asked Calcutta citizens to form volunteer squads to deal with the lawbreakers. Paying tribute to the police, he added: “Nowhere else in the world have police not opened fire when attacked with bombs.”
