HITCH-HIKED 2000 MILES IN EUROPE: ROVER SCOUT RETURNS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. After hitch-hiking 2000 miles through Europe Bruce Svenson, aged 20. of Hamilton, returned to New Zealand in the Wanganella today convinced that his is the simplest way to travel. His formula for the trip was camping gear, a rucksack, a couple of changes of clothing and a little money. Bruce has been away a year. He left last January to attend the world Rove’’ Scout moot in Norway. The moot lasted a fortnight and after it was over he covered both Norway and Sweden before going to Denmark. The Danes were the friendliest people and his stav there only cost 15/-. Germany was even cheaper where three weeks cost him only 9d as he was able to use military transport and sleep in camps. “Antwerp makes Auckland look like a morgue.’’ he said. When he returned to England he joined the crew of the immigrant ship Ormonde. After all his travelling Bruce will not get a warm welcome home His familv are on holiday in Christchurch and he will have to bach for tw'’ or three days.
