1000 DEAD IN CHUNGKING BLAZE

About 1000 people are dead and 100,000 homeless in Chungking as a result of a disastrous fire which broke out on Friday and continued throughout yesterday morning, according to the latest despatches from the official Central News Agency. The agency said that the fire destroyed or damaged 10,000 buildings in a triangular area between the Yangtsc and Chialing Rivers. Fanned by a dry wind, the flames swept through the slum area and then engulfed the entire business and banking district.
