TWO KILLED IN FIERCE PRISON RIOT
NEW DELHI, Aug. 14. Two Communist prisoners were killed and 18 were injured in a violent clash with warders and police at Sabarkati gaol, near Ahmadabad, last night. The prisoners wounded 24 police, including the district superintendent. The fighting started when the prisoners refused to go to their cells as a protest against the removal of some prisoners to another gaol. The pusoners barricaded themselves behind sleeping cots and furniture and attacked the police with clubs and stones. They inflicted serious head wounds on the police superintendent. Two prisoners who tried to get the superintendent’s pistol were shot dead by the police. The remainder of the prisoners were overpowered after fierce fighting.
