NEW YORK, Aug 14,
Sixteen American and British companies handling alkali were convicted of having violated the anti-trust law under a world cartel.
Among the defendants were Imperial Chemical Industries, Limited, of England, and its subsidiary 1.C.1. of New York.
Federal Judge Kaufman ruled that the companies had tried to “blanket” the alkali export field and divide world markets by policing industry. He said that they had blacklisted competitors, split markets among themselves, fixed prices and sold through joint agents. . , , ~ Judge Kaufman convicted the companies under the United States Sherman Anti-Trust Act. He told counsel appearing for the United States Government to submit their ideas for an injunction which he would draw up against the companies to halt their practices.
