Guatemala Piqued: Claims To British Honduras Issue
GUATEMALA, Mar. 6.
The Guatemala Foreign Office issued a statement yesterdav harshly criticising the United States for her refusal to send a delegate to the Havana conference of the American Committee on Dependent Territories, at which Guatemala is anxious to discuss claims to British Honduras.
The statement took exception to the United States contention that the conference would endanger the principles of the United Nations’ charter, and made the charge that the United States, in refusing to appoint a delegate, ignored the will of the majority of American States.
The statement said: "With pain, Guatemala saw the Soviet Government set the same precedent in refusing to accent ma.iority decisions in the United Nations.”
Expressing Guatemala’s “disillusionment.” the statement said that other American Republics should “take careful note of these new practices—the consequences of which it is not possible to foresee in all their ramifications.”
